Celebrating Independence Day with Shona, one of my High School besties, in Point Arena! I’m going to tell you a little story about us! We met on an adventurous backpacking trip in the middle of a rainy January on the Lost Coast in 1991, my freshman year. We saw lumberjack haunts in the ghost town of Wheeler, weathered a storm in the night, and hitchhiked home early after three soggy days.
Our independence has continued to shine as we enjoy adventurous traveling and all started our own businesses shortly after college. Talking shop and being creative has always been a part of our friendship. We also get ourselves into situations and scrapes where having functional outdoor pants is helpful! But this wasn’t our first entrepreneurial idea!
In early 1995, at the ages of nineteen and twenty, we shipped out to South-East Asia and after three months of traveling, we finished our trip in Nepal. Running out of money, we got inspired to start an adventure-travel sandal company, after our Tevas got stolen. Fueled by inspiration, we hired a young man and his motorcycle to drive us around Katmandu looking for thread, strapping, a needle, and a tire to make the soles. We sawed the tire with pocketknives and furiously stitched, giving up our vegetation diets for the inexpensive salami and bread to fuel us. We proudly wore our shoes on the international flight back home.

Today Shona is still the friend I go to to talk business and marketing —she has given me loads of advice about Chickfly to date and we love to talk real estate, something she is an expert in.

Shona has recently moved from marketing into full time reale state development, a male-dominated field that she is excelling in. She knows to call me for hydrology advice when there is a drainage issue or water intrusion, and we have both replaced failing septic tanks on our properties, just some of the things we have in common. She has a wealth of knowledge.
So stoked to have Shona wear the Chickfly Butter Onesie to the fireworks party at the pier in my hometown of Point Arena! We both had to go to the bathroom; I chose the bush and she chose the porta-potties and we both got it done without dropping our drawers!

With Cedar and Porch she rents her properties, short-term, to traveling nurses or crabbers from Alaska, anyone who does seasonal or independent work. With a sweet eye for design (getting away with matching a white bra under a black onesie, with the addition of tan accessories and Elsi Jacobson Shoes), she does the gorgeous interior design on her homes. She also works with homeowners, helping them avoid capital gains, get mailbox cash, and earn a higher interest rate than they could with a bank, DBA Shona Buys Houses. I am proud of her for bringing her business to this level, and also switching fields mid-stream! That’s kinda what I am doing with Chickfly, although I am continuing to do watershed science with Village Ecosystems.

So that’s a little story about two entrepreneurs from Mendo putting their creative ideas into action!

Having a jumper you can go to the bathroom in makes wearing a onesie a functional option!

I received my 2XL Chickfly pants, and I'm super excited about them! They fit perfectly, are super comfy, and now I wish I had ordered 2 more pairs!

Love the comfort and fit and the fact that I can wear these high or low ... plus there are 4 pockets. I wear these everyday they are my favorite leggings!
