10 benefits of slow fashion

Chickfly embraces Slow Fashion. Slow fashion is an approach to fashion that considers the processes and resources required to make clothing. It advocates for buying better-quality garments that will last longer, and values fair treatment of people, animals, and the planet.

At Chickfly we are keeping the manufacturing close to our shipping warehouse in California and working with local businesses. We take pride in the quality of the material sourcing as well as the people behind the manufacturing and the design and operation for this amazing brand and its unique product line in the functional fashion and slow fashion industry. We are a part of the slow fashion movement and below are some reasons and benefits as to why you should be too.

1. Saving water

According to a report from Fashion Revolution, it takes 2,720 litres of water to make a single cotton t-shirt, which is how much we normally drink over a three year period. The same report also reveals that it takes 757 litres of water to make just one pair of jeans, which is the equivalent to 285 showers. The message is simple: avoid fast fashion and save water. Our wool, tencel, and bamboo fabrics consume much less water that cotton, and the organic dyes prevent contamination of water.

2. Supporting fair wages & working Conditions

Many large retailers and fast fashion companies keep their prices low by producing their clothing in factories where workers earn insanely low wages, lack health and safety equipment like air filters, use child labor, and lack regulations that protect workers. Global Fashion Agenda found that over half of workers in the fashion industry are not even paid the minimum wage in their country. Chickfly pants are sewn in California where the labor standards are some of highest in the world. By purchasing our pants you can be assured that your workers are paid a living wage, while you are also supporting your local economy by buying USA made garments.

3. Supporting small businesses

It’s pretty obvious that fast fashion is generally produced by mass-market brands, whereas slow fashion is made up of smaller and more independent companies. By purchasing your clothing from a brand that’s part of the slow fashion movement, you’ll be supporting smaller, often family-run and independent businesses and with Chickfly we are a woman owned business and local to CA. From design concepts, to the sewing of the Chickfly pants and leggings products, we are committed to small businesses and the local economy and are proud to say they are made in the USA.

4. Develop your own classic style

Having and creating your own style gives you a time enduring classic look, allows you to develop a comfortable wardrobe, and saves your time and money chasing trends. We believe Chickfly designs will become classic styles that will endure the test of time. Their simple, elegant lines go well with a variety of tops, and their technology, comfort, and functionality are brilliant.

5. Contribute to sustainability

According to reports, textile dyeing is the second-largest polluter of water globally. This is not ok. By choosing to buy less and from sustainable, slow fashion brands such as Chickfly, who’s founder and designer is a water ecologist and knows all about water conservation, you can be proud to save water by supporting slow fashion and Chickfly. Not only does Chickfly save water and the environment by using organic dyes and sustainable practices, but the entire design of these Chickfly pants were created so you can open them up easily and go pee without taking your pants off, so peeing in nature just became easier and that saves a lot of water by not flushing the toilet. Better for your health, better for the health of the planet.

6. Become more minimal

We all know the expression “less is more”, right? Well, one of the beautiful things about slow fashion is that it encourages you to become more minimal. By taking away the headache of what colors or prints are “in” and rejecting the notion that you can only be seen wearing something once *shudder*, you automatically align with slow fashion and begin living a more minimal, sustainable life. This gives you less to worry about so you can concentrate on the important things in life, like getting out there and being active in your family and community and connecting with nature.

7. Saves time

Minimalism creates time savings. Instead of racing around trying to decide what to wear, or trying to find something because you have so many clothes to choose from, you’ll get to spend more time doing the things you really love in life and having the time to be more involved instead of wasting time on chasing the most trendy look, you can walk out in confidence in something you already know looks great and feels better.

8. Saves money

Saving money in the long haul is always better than the short run. Saving money is something everyone looks to do but how you do it matters. Sure, fast fashion items tend to be cheaper, but the very concept of fast fashion is to churn through these lower quality garments, meaning you end up spending more money in the long run. By supporting slow fashion, you’ll buy less which will ultimately save you money over time and isn't that what we all want more time and money.

9. Focus on quality over quantity

Rejecting the notion of fast fashion will lead you to focus far more on quality over quantity. Let’s face it, it’s much better to have a few high-quality pieces than a wardrobe full of poor-quality clothing. Keeping quality garments over a lifetime allows you to have that favorite piece of clothing for years to come and with chickfly design, you get more than great fashion, you also get a piece of clothing that functions for your active lifestyle.

10. Be part of a growing movement

The slow fashion movement, or “slow movement” as it has also been called, is a growing wave of interest in rejecting fast fashion and living more simply. This movement favors ethics and sustainability within a business model and supply chain, ultimately meaning higher quality ethical fashion. Eco-friendly slow fashion ensures quality and a better, safer world.

Chickfly and all of our partners hope you can join this wonderful movement in slow fashion and become a part of the solution the world is looking for. Support slow fashion, Chickfly and your environment in order to give yourself the  “Freedom to Go Anywhere.”

Why Moms love Chickfly Pants

When You Gotta Go You Gotta Go

Moms, as well as other childcare givers, whether they are outdoor pre-school teachers, environmental educators, trans and intersex parents, or dads with disabilities — these people understand that there is a bathroom problem for people that can’t easily use a traditional fly. Like most things in a world that have been developed by and for able-bodied men, there has been a lack of adequate innovation for female bathroom needs and Chickfly has stepped in to solve the problem.
